Traditional Market in Hamburg's West
The Nienstedtener Herbstmarkt has been a firm fixture in Hamburg's annual market calendar for years. On Nienstedtener Marktplatz, the quiet district in the Altona borough transforms into a classic funfair and market location for four days — with rides, carousels for children, market stalls with regional specialities, and arts and crafts.
Family Character
Unlike the large Hamburg funfairs (Dom, Schlagermove, BilleVue), the Nienstedtener Herbstmarkt has a distinctly family character. The manageable market square features classic children's carousels, a children's area with play equipment, and farm shop stalls with regional producers. The atmosphere is rather quiet and cosy.
Nienstedten — Hamburg's Upscale West
Nienstedten is a traditional district in the Altona borough — between Othmarschen and Blankenese, with villas, old farmhouses, and its own St. Nicolai Church from the 18th century. The market square forms the historic centre. The Herbstmarkt is the autumn edition of the Nienstedtener Jahrmarkt — there is also the Nienstedtener Frühjahrsmarkt in spring.
Organisation
The organiser is the State Association of the Mobile Trade and Showmen Hamburg e.V. — the umbrella organisation that coordinates numerous Hamburg funfairs and markets. Administrative body: Altona District Office.
