About ElbFilmKunst

ElbFilmKunst is Hamburg's travelling open-air cinema located in the parks of Altona and Blankenese. Under the motto "Special Films in Special Places", selected art-house films, comedies, and documentaries are shown every summer at various venues — in August-Lütgens-Park, Hirschpark, Quartierspark Mitte Altona, Falkensteiner Ufer, Goßlers Park, Christianswiese, and Cranach-Platz. Program: curated, diverse, always with a connection to the location.

Mobile Open-Air Cinema in Altona's Green Spaces

ElbFilmKunst has a simple, brilliant concept: instead of playing at a fixed location like many other open-air cinemas, the cinema travels through the parks and squares of Altona and Blankenese. Each venue brings its own atmosphere — August-Lütgens-Park in Altona's Volkspark, the Hirschpark near the Elbe with river views, the inner-city Christianswiese in the St. Pauli/Altona-Altstadt district, Goßlers Park in Blankenese with its villa backdrop.

Special Films

The curatorial profile focuses on art-house films, comedies, documentaries, and tragicomedies — away from the mainstream blockbusters. In previous years, films such as "Another Round" by Thomas Vinterberg, "Die Unbeugsamen" (The Unbeaten), or Jafar Panahi's "Taxi Tehran" were part of the program. Some films are shown in their original language with subtitles, others in German dubbed version.

Venues 2026

Confirmed and recurring venues: August-Lütgens-Park, Hirschpark, Christianswiese, Quartierspark Mitte Altona, Cranach-Platz, Blankeneser Marktplatz, Falkensteiner Ufer, Goßlers Park. The exact dates and films will be announced on elbfilmkunst.de at the beginning of summer 2026.

Altona — Cultural District on the Elbe

The Altona district has always been Hamburg's most culturally experimental west. With districts like Altona-Altstadt, Ottensen, Bahrenfeld, Blankenese, and Othmarschen, it offers a mix of urban scene and elegant proximity to the Elbe. ElbFilmKunst brings open-air cinema to the green lungs of this district — and allows many Hamburg residents to rediscover their own local park.

ElbFilmKunst — edition 2026

ElbFilmKunst 2026 is expected to run from June to September in the parks of Altona and Blankenese. The exact screening dates and films will be announced on elbfilmkunst.de at the beginning of summer. Venues: August-Lütgens-Park, Hirschpark, Christianswiese, Goßlers Park, Falkensteiner Ufer, Quartierspark Mitte Altona, Cranach-Platz, Blankeneser Marktplatz.

ElbFilmKunst 2026 — Season Underway
