Four Fairs, One Square

Rendsburg maintains a rare tradition: four seasonal fairs are spread throughout the year, all taking place on the central Willy-Brandt-Platz in the city center. The autumn market is the second to last of the year and transitions the city from summer to autumn – traditionally at the end of September. The fair is organized by the municipal subsidiary Rendsburg Tourismus + Marketing GmbH.

Rendsburg – District Capital on the Kiel Canal

Rendsburg, with its approximately 28,000 inhabitants, is the district capital of Rendsburg-Eckernförde and is located directly on the Kiel Canal – the busiest artificial waterway in the world. With its historic old town, the world-famous railway high bridge (swing bridge), and its focus on naval technology, the city is an important urban center in Schleswig-Holstein. Willy-Brandt-Platz in the city center offers the ideal space for seasonal folk festivals.

What a Rendsburg Autumn Market Offers

The program is that of a classic fair: rides of all sizes – from the fast-paced Breakdancer for adults, a Ferris wheel, and dodgems to a children's carousel and the traditional candy stall. Classic showman stages offer shooting galleries, skill games, and prize stands. For food, expect gingerbread heart stalls, bratwurst, crêpes, candied almonds, potato pancakes, and traditional folk festival beer.

Family Festival and Sociability

The autumn market is explicitly designed as a family festival. On weekends, the atmosphere heats up in the evenings with a classic folk festival ambiance. Those who visit the autumn market get to know a piece of North German festival culture – the centuries-old tradition of traveling showmen, a piece of cultural heritage that is also maintained in northern Germany.
