Pentecost with Wine
The Rendsburg Wine Festival is a Pentecost institution in the far north. For three days, the historic Altstädter Markt in Rendsburg's city center transforms into an open-air wine bar. Selected vintners from German wine-growing regions – Mosel, Rheinhessen, Pfalz, Baden, Württemberg – present their wines directly at market stalls. Rendsburg restaurateurs serve matching dishes: Flammkuchen, cheese platters, pasta, seasonal specialties.
Atmosphere and Concept
The atmosphere at the Altstädter Markt is typical for Pentecost: warm, open, convivial. Tables and chairs are set up outdoors, wine tastings change at the stalls, and singers, bands, and DJs take turns on stage. Admission is free; you only pay for wine and food. This mix of market stroll and wine evening makes the festival an attraction for visitors from the entire Rendsburg-Eckernförde district and surrounding areas.
Organizers and Tradition
The wine festival is organized by Rendsburg Tourismus + Marketing GmbH. It is part of the Rendsburg event calendar and, alongside the Norla Market and the Old Town Festival, is one of the fixed summer dates. The location around St. Mary's Church on the Altstädter Markt gives the festival a special atmosphere – the old buildings of Rendsburg's old town form a perfect backdrop.
Region: Rendsburg-Eckernförde District
Rendsburg is the district town of Rendsburg-Eckernförde and, with around 28,000 inhabitants, is located on the Kiel Canal in the heart of Schleswig-Holstein. The city has been a trade hub for centuries, and the wine festival seamlessly connects with this tradition. The Pentecost period guarantees the best weather prospects and a lively atmosphere over three May days.
