A historic funfair town

Rendsburg is the district town of Rendsburg-Eckernförde in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, located on the Kiel Canal and the Eider river. The town has a long tradition as a trade and transport hub — and with this tradition come the funfairs. Funfairs have been a fixture in Rendsburg for generations; four dates per year are coordinated by Rendsburg Tourismus + Marketing GmbH: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and a pre-Christmas event.

What to expect

The Rendsburg Summer Market in the city centre follows the classic showman format:

• Rides for all generations — children's carousels, Ferris wheel, dodgems, modern Breakdancer (one of the crowd-pullers)
• Classic market stalls — shooting galleries, ring toss, sweets stall
• Culinary delights — Bratwurst, fries, crêpes, candied almonds, candy floss

Remarkable: The showman families who set up their attractions in Rendsburg have been connected to the town for generations. This gives the Rendsburg funfairs a distinctive family character — unlike the large showman markets in Hamburg or Kiel, where exhibitors change.

Admission and canal atmosphere

Admission to the fairground is free; payment is only required for rides and stalls. Those who combine the market with a visit to the locks on the Kiel Canal or a walk across the famous transporter bridge will experience Rendsburg at its finest summer form — canal ships, the railway high bridge, showman lights, and the bustle of a North German district town.
