Three days of street food against the industrial backdrop of the Old Gasworks
The Old Gasworks in Augsburg's Oberhausen district is one of Swabia's most impressive industrial monuments. The historic brick halls from the late 19th century have been carefully renovated in recent years and now host cultural events, concerts, and festivals. The annual Schlemmerfest uses the large forecourt and open spaces around the gasometers as the festival grounds — industrial romance meets modern street food culture.
Organizer J. Gökhan and his team at Schlemmerfest GmbH bring a colorful mix of international food trucks and show kitchens to Augsburg every year. The offerings range from Asian specialties (Dim Sum, Bao Buns, Korean BBQ) to Latin American classics (Empanadas, Tacos, Arepas), as well as Swabian and Bavarian creations and vegan options. Show kitchens demonstrate live cooking, and cocktail bars offer drinks to enjoy at the festival.
The Schlemmerfest is designed not only for culinary delights but also for music. Friday evening is dedicated to a 90s and 2000s party with a DJ, while Saturday features the live band Midlifegroove, a five-piece soul-funk combo. Sunday is Family Day with a bouncy castle, play area, and a relaxed atmosphere — ideal for parents with young children visiting the festival in the afternoon.
Augsburg, Bavaria's third-largest city with around 300,000 inhabitants, is one of the cities with the densest festival landscape in southern Germany. The spectrum ranges from the Friedensfest and Augsburger Sommernächte to the Modular and Brecht festivals. The Schlemmerfest at the Gaswerk has established itself in this environment as an unpretentious, family-friendly neighborhood festival that scores points with fair admission prices and a clear concept.
From Friday, May 8, to Sunday, May 10, 2026, the Schlemmerfest invites you to the grounds of the Old Gasworks. Organizer J. Gökhan brings food trucks, show kitchens, and cocktail bars to the area, which gains a unique atmosphere from its striking industrial architecture.
The tiered admission — €3 for adults, free for children under 14 — makes the festival particularly family-friendly. Around 8,000 visitors are expected over the entire weekend.
