Federweißer and Onion Cake on the Brunnenplatz in Zell's Old Town with Sunday Shopping
Federweißer is more than just a drink on the Mosel: it's a seasonal phenomenon that makes the connection between wine culture and city life visible in a particularly concentrated form. The freshly fermenting must is only drinkable for a few weeks a year; and only in the wine regions where the wine is produced locally can this wine be experienced in its full freshness. The Federweißerfest in Zell focuses on this freshness.
The Brunnenplatz in Zell's old town is the venue. The small square, framed by historic houses, offers the ideal backdrop for an event that focuses on atmosphere rather than size. Zell's vintners serve their Federweißer, each with its own unique note: some stop the fermentation early and serve a very sweet, young must; others wait longer, so the Federweißer is tarter, almost a young wine. Both variants are characteristic and are often only truly understood when compared directly.
The number one accompaniment is Zwiebelkuchen, a hearty specialty made from yeast dough, onions, bacon, and egg cream, served in thick slices from the baking sheet. The Cochem and Zell bakeries bake the cakes fresh, so the slices arrive warm with a crispy crust. In addition, there is bratwurst, tarte flambée, and sweet specialties such as apple cake and plum cake. Live music from the Schlager spectrum creates a cozy atmosphere, and on Sunday, the shops in Zell's city center also open their doors as part of a "Verkaufsoffener Sonntag".

The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years: Opening on Thursday evening with the first concert, main festival day on Friday with stage program, Saturday with family program and festival finale, possibly followed by Sunday shopping.
