Bavaria-Swabia's largest youth and pop culture festival at the Gaswerk
Since 2007, the Modular Festival has been an integral part of Augsburg's city summer and is considered a reflection of the current German-speaking music scene. Organized by the Stadtjugendring Augsburg as a non-commercial festival, volunteer teams curate the lineup – with a focus on newcomers, Hip-Hop, Indie, and Alternative.
Since 2017, the Gaswerk Augsburg in the Oberhausen district, a historic industrial area from the late 19th century, has been the festival's venue. The grounds feature three open-air stages, plus an electronic floor and activity areas such as the Zukunftswohnzimmer (Future Living Room), the ModulARENA, and the Aktivisti Camp, where initiatives present their projects. The brick backdrop with the distinctive gasometers gives the festival a unique atmosphere.
What began as a small Stadtjugendring project is now one of the most important urban festivals in Southern Germany. Headliners like K.I.Z., Antilopen Gang, Marteria, Casper, Schmyt, and Yung Hurn have graced the main stage in recent years; alongside them, Augsburg and Swabian bands are given a platform that major commercial festivals rarely offer.
The Modular sees itself not just as a concert, but as a cultural space. The Future World by THA presents research and innovation projects from the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, while in the Aktivisti Camp, NGOs, associations, and political initiatives engage in discussions with the audience. Classic festival food meets vegan street food stalls, all embedded within the Gaswerk area.
With the 2026 edition, Modular writes its next chapter at the Gaswerk area in Oberhausen. Three open-air stages, the electronic floor program, the Zukunftswohnzimmer, and the ModulARENA, along with the Aktivisti Camp and Future World by THA, form the spatial backbone. Over 20 acts are confirmed so far, with more to follow before the festival begins.
The headliner lineup for 2026 features Bibiza, Ennio, and Ski Aggu, three of the most sought-after acts in the German rap and pop scene, on Augsburg's main stage. Also confirmed are, among others, Blond, Disarstar, Grossstadtgeflüster, Paul Wetz, Blackout Problems, Benno!, Fredrik, Luvre47, Yola, Yung Pepp, Cordoba78, and Vandalisbin. A total of ~50 bands and DJs are planned.
The full lineup and stage splits will be updated on modular-festival.de.
