Traditional Brombachsee Volksfest with festival tent, concert, and Gambrinus procession
The Pleinfeld Volksfest is a fixture in the Franconian summer calendar. The organizer is the Culture and Tourist Information of the market town of Pleinfeld; the festival host rarely changes and shapes the festival tent with Franconian specialties and freshly tapped beer. The Volksfest is part of the tourist offerings of the Franconian Lake District – Pleinfeld is located directly on the Großer Brombachsee, one of the largest reservoirs in Bavaria.
Four days of festivities follow a classic schedule: Friday is the day for businesses with a concert by the Pleinfeld brass band in front of the town hall, the Gambrinus procession to the festival tent, and the ceremonial beer tapping by the mayor. Saturday offers an afternoon for seniors and a dance evening with a cover band. Sunday is the day for clubs, customs, and tradition with a morning pint concert and a big band performance. Monday is family day with discounted carousel prices, followed by the traditional fireworks around 10:30 PM.
The beer tent on the festival grounds offers around 2,000 seats and is the center of the festival – with Franconian cuisine (Schäuferla, Bratwurst, half chickens, Steckerlfisch), freshly tapped Franconian beer, and live music daily. Surrounding it are amusement rides (bumper cars, carousels, roundabouts), shooting galleries, candy stalls, and the gingerbread heart stand.
A special feature of the Pleinfeld Volksfest is the Gambrinus procession: a festival carriage with the mythical beer king Gambrinus rolls to the festival grounds on Friday evening after the concert, accompanied by the brass band, traditional costume groups, and club delegations from the market square, symbolically opening the festival. The concert at 6:30 PM in front of the town hall has been the official start of every Pleinfeld Volksfest for decades.
Pleinfeld is a market town with around 8,000 inhabitants in the Middle Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen, south of Roth. Its location on the Brombachsee makes Pleinfeld a tourist center in the Franconian Lake District. The Volksfest was founded in the early 1960s – its 63rd edition will be celebrated in 2026.
The 63rd edition of the Pleinfeld Volksfest runs from Friday, June 26, to Monday, June 29, 2026, at the festival grounds on Stirner Straße. The festival opens on Friday evening with the traditional concert by the Pleinfeld brass band in front of the town hall, followed by the Gambrinus procession to the festival tent and the ceremonial beer tapping by Mayor Stefan Frühwald.
The festival tent is open daily; on Saturday afternoon, there is a senior's afternoon with Pleinfeld brass music, and on Sunday morning, the traditional morning pint on the "Day of Clubs, Customs, and Tradition." The highlight on Family Monday is the fireworks around 10:30 PM.
Program confirmed by Zweckverband Brombachsee and the market town of Pleinfeld.
