Non-commercial village Christmas market in northeastern Berlin since 2009
Blankenburg is one of those Berlin districts that still preserve their village identity — a village green (Anger) in the very northeast of the city, incorporated in 1920, located in the Pankow district. Unlike the central Berlin Christmas markets, the Blankenburg Christmas Festival is small, intimate, and consistently non-commercial: no chain mulled wine packages, no external showmen, no stalls. Instead, local residents, associations, the local church community, and initiatives.
The festival runs from 1 PM to 6 PM at the Alt-Blankenburg church community garden, Dorfanger 17. Stalls offer arts and crafts and small gifts, along with mulled wine, gingerbread, stollen, bratwurst, and hot punch. On a small stage, choirs, school clubs, the brass band, or solo musicians from the district perform. A nativity scene in the garden is a mandatory part. The festival ends at dusk — the candle and fairy light atmosphere is part of the charm.
The Pankow district is Berlin's largest by population. Its northeastern edge is rather rural, with village green districts like Blankenburg, Karow, Buchholz, and Französisch Buch Buchholz. The Runder Tisch Blankenburg, initiator of the Christmas festival since 2009, is a voluntary association of residents that looks after the district's concerns — urban development, traffic, cultural events.
For over fifteen years, the festival has followed the same concept: stalls from the district, stage music from the district, gastronomy from the district, plus a nativity scene and mulled wine. The exact date for 2026 will be confirmed by the organizer a few weeks before the festival on dorfanger-blankenburg.de — the two most likely dates are December 5th or 12th, 2026 (1st or 2nd Advent Saturday).
The Blankenburg Christmas Festival 2026 will likely take place on the 1st or 2nd Advent Saturday 2026 (December 5th or 12th) in the Alt-Blankenburg Church Community Garden / at the Dorfanger, Alt-Blankenburg 17, 13129 Berlin-Blankenburg. Usual time: 1 PM to 6 PM. Organizer: Runder Tisch Blankenburg. Free admission.
The festival is explicitly non-commercial. Unlike the large Berlin city center markets, there are no external showmen or mulled wine chains here. All stalls are operated by local residents, associations, and initiatives from Blankenburg. The motto "A village gives itself a Christmas festival" precisely describes the concept — a Berlin exception in the largely commercialized Christmas market calendar of the capital.
Free admission. Mulled wine, food, and drinks are paid for directly at the stalls — proceeds go to the next edition and social projects of the Runder Tisch. Getting there: S-Bahn S2 to Blankenburg + 10 min walk.
S-Bahn line S2 to Blankenburg, then a ten-minute walk towards the Dorfanger. Alternatively, Tram M2 to Pankow + Bus 154 to Blankenburg. Parking around the Dorfanger is very limited — travel by public transport or bicycle is recommended.
