Open-Air Cinema Under the Lichtenfels Market Square Sky
As the evenings grow milder in mid-August, the central Lichtenfels market square transforms into an open-air cinema for three evenings. Stadtmarketing Treffpunkt Lichtenfels e.V. organizes the Lichtenfelser Kinosommer as part of the Fränkischer Kinosommer — a regional network that offers similar open-air programs in numerous Upper Franconian towns every summer.
Free Admission Thanks to Local Sponsors
What's special about the Lichtenfelser Kinosommer: The regular admission fee of 5 Euros per person is covered by local sponsors — the screening is therefore free for visitors. A conscious statement by the city and its economy, strengthening the market square as a meeting place.
Program 2026
Three films are announced for the 2026 edition — a mix of family entertainment, drama, and socially relevant topics:
- Friday, August 21, 2026: »Paddington in Peru« — the sequel to the bear comedy
- Saturday, August 22, 2026: »Wunderschöner« — family comedy
- Sunday, August 23, 2026: »Conclave« — film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Robert Harris about the election of a Pope
Atmosphere on the Market Square
Doors open at 7:00 PM, films start at nightfall. Before each film, there's a 'warm-up' with film music and catering. Seating is not assigned — those who want a good spot should arrive early. Bringing your own food and drinks is prohibited; catering stands on-site will provide refreshments.
Kinosommer Lichtenfels — edition 2026
The Lichtenfelser Kinosommer 2026 takes place from August 21 to 23, 2026 on Lichtenfels market square. Doors open daily at 7:00 PM, each evening starts with a 'warm-up' featuring film music and catering, and the films begin at nightfall.

Getting There
Lichtenfels is located on the main railway line Würzburg–Bamberg–Saalfeld. It is a 5-minute walk from Lichtenfels station to the market square. By car, take the A 73 (exit Lichtenfels-Süd).

In the car parks »Unteres Tor« and »Oberes Tor« — both for a fee.
