First and second gala sessions of the 2025/2026 carnival season of the Kusel Carnival Club
The Karnevalverein Kusel 1957 e.V. is the central carnival club of the district town of Kusel and one of the most active clubs in the West Palatinate Fastnacht (carnival) scene. Founded in 1957, the club not only organizes the entire season's program — from traditional street carnival and gala sessions to children's carnival — but is also involved year-round in preserving carnival traditions, promoting young talent, and numerous social activities.
The gala sessions are the most elite and simultaneously the most popular events of the season. While the street carnival belongs to everyone and the children's carnival is for the youngest carnival-goers, the gala sessions, with their reserved seating, festive atmosphere, and packed program, are the social highlight for adults. The KV Kusel traditionally offers two gala sessions on consecutive Saturdays each season to meet the high demand.
The gala sessions follow the classic dramaturgy of Palatinate Fastnacht evenings: Entry of the Elferrat (council of eleven) and the Tollitäten (carnival royalty) to the sound of the club's own anthem; welcome by the president; performances by the dance groups (Garde, Jugendgarde, Kindertanzgruppe) with marching and show dances; several Büttenredner (comedians in costume) in the Palatinate dialect, humorously commenting on local politics, club life, and everyday topics; musical contributions, sketches, and show performances by friendly clubs; the session's climax at the end with a grand finale. The session lasts several hours, is interrupted by a break, and ends with the traditional exit of the performers.
The 2026 season motto is Amore. It embraces the theme of joie de vivre, a southern lifestyle, and the connection of music, dance, and romance, influencing the dances, decorations, and sketches of the gala sessions as well as other KV Kusel season events.
The 2026 gala sessions continue the decades-long tradition of the Karnevalverein Kusel. As every year, the club begins preparations for the events as early as late summer: dance groups rehearse their choreographies, Büttenredner write their speeches, and sketch groups practice their performances. The season motto "Amore" sets the thematic direction for the entire season and also shapes the gala sessions.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Karnevalverein Kusel in advance. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years for a classic gala session:
Entry of the Elferrat and the Tollitäten to the sounds of the club anthem. Welcome by the president. Announcement of the season motto "Amore".
Performance by the children's dance group, the youth Garde, and the Garde with marching and show dances. First Büttenreden on local and regional topics, delivered in the Palatinate dialect. Musical contributions between the speeches.
Refreshment break with food and drinks. Guest mingling, photo opportunities with the Garde and Tollitäten.
Further dance performances. Sketches and show acts by friendly clubs from the West Palatinate. Climax of the session with the final Büttenrede and grand finale.
Traditional exit of the performers with anthem. Evening concludes with dancing or social gathering.
