French Buchholz Christmas Market
Reportedly Berlin's smallest Christmas market – an Advent afternoon in the Pankow district of Französisch Buchholz
2026
About French Buchholz Christmas Market
French Buchholz Christmas Market — edition 2026
As in previous years, the Initiative Sozialeres Buchholz plans an Advent afternoon in 2026 on the "Franz B." adventure playground in Blankenfelderstraße. The exact date will be announced on local Pankow channels shortly before the start of the Advent season.
The concept remains unchanged: a deliberately small, voluntarily organised market of the senses with handmade stalls, mulled wine, children's activities, and musical contributions from the neighbourhood. Not a large-scale commercial event, but an Advent afternoon in the north of Pankow.

Französisch Buchholz – A Pankow Village with Huguenot History
Französisch Buchholz is located in the north of the Pankow district and was part of Niederbarnim until its incorporation in 1920. The district has carried the suffix "Französisch" (French) since the 18th century: Elector Frederick William settled Huguenot religious refugees here after the Edict of Potsdam (1685). This is still evidenced today by the rows of old farm buildings, the narrow paths, and the village character of the district – if you come from Vinetastraße U-Bahn station, you take a 20-minute bus ride through increasingly rural Pankow until you arrive here.
A Market of the Senses, Not a Consumer Event
The Christmas market explicitly does not see itself as a commercial event. The Initiative Sozialeres Buchholz has been organising it voluntarily for years – without an entrance fee, without stall fees, without any supra-regional ambitions. On the grounds of the "Franz B." adventure playground, you will find:
- a few handmade stalls (ceramics, textiles, crafts from the neighbourhood)
- mulled wine, hot chocolate, homemade cookies
- children's activities on the playground itself
- small musical contributions from the neighbourhood community
- stalls focused on socialising from local clubs
Berlin's Smallest Christmas Market
The self-description as "Berlin's smallest Christmas market" is half joke, half programme. Those looking for large mulled wine stands, stage shows, and tourist crowds are in the wrong place – those who want to experience an Advent afternoon in the far north of Pankow, with neighbours from the local area and a cup of punch in hand, are exactly right. The short opening hours (usually 3 PM to 6 PM) underscore its character: a single Advent afternoon, not a market lasting weeks.
Pankow and the North of Berlin
Pankow is Berlin's largest district by population. The Französisch Buchholz district is on the northern edge, where the city gradually dissolves into the Brandenburg fields. A visit to the market can be well combined with an exploration of the village structure, such as the former Hugenottenstraße or the Französisch Buchholz cemetery with its historical tombstones.
