Second Advent weekend in one of Baden-Württemberg's most beautiful old towns
Besigheim, nestled between the Enz and Neckar rivers, is considered one of Baden-Württemberg's most beautiful half-timbered old towns — the narrow Kirchstraße, the market square with the town hall and Schochenturm, as well as the Kelterplatz, form a perfect backdrop for the traditional Christmas market on the second Advent weekend. On Saturday, December 5th, and Sunday, December 6th, 2026, the Besigheim Christmas Market with its arts and crafts market will open its stalls — confirmed in the official event calendar 3b-tourismus.de of the tourism association Besigheim, Bietigheim-Bissingen, and Bönnigheim.
Unlike the mega Christmas markets of large cities, Besigheim emphasizes arts and crafts and handmade items: potters, woodcarvers, leather goods, felt art, jewelry design, and textile work dominate the offerings. The medieval architecture of the old town — half-timbered houses, narrow alleys, towers — enhances the festive atmosphere. Mulled wine, punch, bratwurst, tarte flambée, and Swabian classics are served at the food stalls; local clubs and restaurateurs cater together.
In parallel with the Christmas market, the "Christbaumloben mit Weihnachtsbaumverkauf und Glühwein" (Christmas tree praising with Christmas tree sales and mulled wine) takes place on the same weekend — a Swabian tradition where families buy their Christmas tree on-site and immediately toast it with mulled wine. Musical performances by Besigheim clubs, concerts in the town church, and choir performances accompany the weekend.
Besigheim is located in the Ludwigsburg district in northern Baden-Württemberg, at the confluence of the Enz and Neckar rivers. With around 12,800 inhabitants, Besigheim is a small but extremely noteworthy town — its intact medieval town layout is one of the region's top attractions. The town is located on the Swabian Wine Route and is part of the Württemberg wine-growing region. Besides the Besigheim Wine Festival in September, the Christmas market is the biggest event in the town's calendar.
On the second Advent weekend, the historic old town of Besigheim opens for the traditional Christmas market. The stalls extend from Kirchstraße across the market square and Aipertumstraße to Kelterplatz — all four squares and alleys together form a closed market area within the intact medieval town layout.
The focus is on handmade products by regional artisans. Mulled wine, punch, and Swabian culinary classics provide the food and drink. In parallel, the traditional "Christbaumloben mit Weihnachtsbaumverkauf und Glühwein" takes place on the market square — a Swabian tradition where freshly bought Christmas trees are celebrated with mulled wine.
