When the Village Pond Becomes a Stage

Günthersdorf is a district of the town of Leuna in the Saalekreis (state of Saxony-Anhalt). In the middle of the village lies the pond, a small, often underutilized body of water – except for once a year. Then the banks and the village green transform into a small festival backdrop, and the Teichfest brings the entire village community together, along with returning locals and neighbors from surrounding areas.

The program follows a charming, established script: Saturday evening dance with Space-Disco, followed by a torchlight procession with the "lustigen Heimatmusikanten aus Altranstädt" (Merry Hometown Musicians from Altranstädt), and then a small fireworks display over the pond. Sunday starts at 11 a.m. with a musical brunch featuring the Edelweiß brass band from Zöschen. From 2 p.m., there's a family afternoon with the Harmonie choir, the Kita Teichknirpse kindergarten, the GCC carnival club, and singer Uwe Langheinrich. Plus a cake bazaar, tombola, and a small flea market. Classic village festival atmosphere in the best sense.
