Three days of wine, music, and half-timbered romance in the most beautiful wine town on the Neckar
Besigheim is located in the Ludwigsburg district, at the confluence of the Enz and Neckar rivers, in the heart of the Württemberg wine region. The medieval old town — one of the best-preserved in all of Baden-Württemberg, recognized by the German Foundation for Monument Protection as the 'most beautiful wine town' — serves as the backdrop for the Music and Wine Days every September. Organized by the Musikverein Stadtkapelle Besigheim in collaboration with the city administration and local vintners, these three days are a tribute to Württemberg's wine heritage and its town music tradition.
The festival's center is the Stadthalle Alte Kelter at Hauptstraße 57 — a historic wine press house that becomes the stage for the music clubs. Here, the Besigheim Town Band, guest brass bands, and ensembles from the greater Stuttgart area perform over the three days. The open design allows visitors to sample wines in the surrounding alleys while still being able to enjoy the music.
Besigheim's vintners serve their wines directly in the alleys. Trollinger, Lemberger, Schwarzriesling, Riesling, and Müller-Thurgau from the steep vineyards on the Neckar slopes form the backbone — complemented by cuvées and sparkling wines from smaller producers. A covered wine village is set up on the Kelterplatz, offering shelter even in unpredictable September weather. Guided tastings take place in the historic vaulted cellars beneath the old town — a rare opportunity to enter these usually closed spaces.
Visitors to the Music and Wine Days should take time to explore the old town: the Schochenhaus, the Bürgerhaus with its distinctive stepped gable, the town church of St. Cyriak, and the stone houses along Kirchstraße offer a walk through late medieval Württemberg. A hike to the Berghauweg or to the Felsengarten Hessigheim on the Neckar completes the wine weekend.
The 2026 Music and Wine Days are scheduled for the weekend of September 18-20. The event is organized by the Musikverein Stadtkapelle Besigheim in cooperation with the Besigheim city administration. On Friday, the town band and the mayor will officially open the event — after which the wine stands in the alleys, the covered wine village at Kelterplatz, and the historic vaulted cellars will open.
Throughout the weekend, various music clubs and brass bands will perform — both in the Stadthalle Alte Kelter and on smaller stages in the old town. Besigheim's vintners will serve Trollinger, Lemberger, Schwarzriesling, Riesling, and Müller-Thurgau, complemented by regional specialties and Swabian cuisine.
