One of Europe's largest poetry festivals at Kulturbrauerei and various other locations
Since 2000, the Poesiefestival Berlin has been the annual hub for the international poetry scene in Germany. Organized by the Haus für Poesie at the Kulturbrauerei in Prenzlauer Berg, it invites poets from all continents – voices that can be heard on a grand stage in Berlin, often for the very first time in German translation.
The core brand is the opening event Weltklang – Nacht der Poesie (World Sound – Night of Poetry): a three-and-a-half-hour marathon where around ten internationally renowned poets read in their original languages, accompanied by simultaneous German translations. Persian, Japanese, Wolof, Spanish, Latvian, Mandarin, Hebrew – Weltklang makes audible how different languages sound and how close poetry can be across the globe.
In addition, the festival thrives on numerous smaller formats: translation workshops where poets transpose their texts into German together with colleagues from other languages, urban space readings, performative formats, workshops on poetry mediation, and discussion evenings on literary-political topics. There is also the Poesiegespräch (Poetry Talk), a long-read format between two poets with a moderator.
The organizer is the Haus für Poesie at the Kulturbrauerei. The Haus also manages the online archive lyrikline.org, one of the world's largest audio archives of contemporary poetry. The Poetry Festival is part of a broad year-round program of readings, workshops, and awards, but is particularly visible as a major event in Berlin's cultural calendar.
The Poesiefestival Berlin 2026 takes place from May 17 to June 14, 2026. The organizer is the Haus für Poesie at the Kulturbrauerei (Knaackstraße 97, 10435 Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, Pankow district). Further venues are spread across Berlin and will be announced with the program in spring 2026.
The complete 2026 program will be published successively on hausfuerpoesie.org. Based on previous years, the festival typically includes around 50 program items with over 100 participating poets, translators, and performers.
The detailed 2026 program will be published on hausfuerpoesie.org. Continuing from previous years:
Single tickets per event (approx. €8–€18), festival passes, and discounted tickets for students, pupils, and Berlin Pass holders are available. Sales via hausfuerpoesie.org and the respective venues.
Kulturbrauerei: U2 line to Eberswalder Straße (approx. 200 m). Tram M1, M10, or M12 to Eberswalder Straße. Other venues are spread across several districts and are accessible via their respective public transport connections. The program lists the venues with access information.
Single tickets per event (approx. €8–€18), festival passes available. Discounts for students, pupils, and Berlin Pass holders. Tickets sold via hausfuerpoesie.org and at the respective venues.
Anyone wanting to experience the festival in its entirety should plan a whole evening for Weltklang – the opening format is a cult event and usually sells out. Visiting a translation workshop is also worthwhile: here you can listen, think along, and sometimes participate.
