One of Germany's Most Important Independent Dance Companies
Greek-German choreographer Toula Limnaios founded her company in Berlin in 1996. Three decades later, it is one of Germany's best-known independent dance ensembles, regularly featured at international festivals and theatres, and has been based at HALLE Tanzbühne in Eberswalder Straße in Prenzlauer Berg since 2007. The hall serves as the venue, rehearsal space, and company headquarters.
Eight Weeks of Retrospection
The 2026 jubilee festival runs from June 3 to July 25 — eight weeks during which the company reconstructs selected pieces from various creative phases and brings them to the stage with new casts. The focus is on five works that, according to the company, mark central developmental lines in Toula Limnaios's choreographic work: le temps d'après (1997), les possédés (2009), if I was real (2013), isson (2003/2016), and the duet shifted realities (2019). In the duet, Toula Limnaios herself will perform on stage with her long-time dancer Hironori Sugata. A joint closing celebration at the HALLE will mark the festival's finale.
HALLE Tanzbühne and Prenzlauer Berg
HALLE Tanzbühne Berlin is located on Eberswalder Straße in the Pankow district, Prenzlauer Berg neighbourhood — one of Berlin's most vibrant areas and a hub for the independent theatre and dance scene. The venue is a former industrial hall, now designed for contemporary dance with 200 seats and a flexible stage. It is considered one of the most important venues for the independent dance scene in Berlin.
