The Scandinavian Advent market in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg
The KulturBrauerei at Knaackstraße 97 is one of Berlin's most important event venues: a complex of several courtyards, built in 1842 as the Schultheiss brewery, now housing cinemas, theaters, concert halls, exhibition spaces, and restaurants. During Advent, the area is transformed annually into the Lucia Christmas Market – named after the Swedish Lucia Festival tradition (December 13th), celebrated throughout Scandinavia as a festival of lights.
The Lucia Market deliberately differs from the major Berlin Advent markets (Gendarmenmarkt, Roter Rathaus, Spandauer Altstadt): no mass stalls, no mulled wine Olympics, no tourist souvenirs. Instead, 70 exhibitors with handicrafts, jewelry, natural wood toys, Scandinavian wool, Finnish and Swedish specialties. The color red dominates (with a bit of white and natural wood), a wooden horse for archery, a historic children's carousel, open fires in old iron pans, two "walking angels," and Santa Claus with a bell.
Since the renovation wave of the 2000s, Prenzlauer Berg has been Berlin's family-bohemian district – young families, renovated old buildings, Kollwitzplatz, Mauerpark. The Lucia Market works precisely in this context: a dense, contemplative Advent market in the courtyard of a listed brewery, significantly more pleasant than the crowds at Gendarmenmarkt and much shorter to reach than the Stade Castle Park Market. The market attracts a regular audience from Prenzlauer Berg, Mitte, and Friedrichshain.
From November 23rd to December 22nd, 2026, the Lucia Christmas Market transforms the courtyards of KulturBrauerei into a Scandinavian Advent market. 70 stalls in a red-white-wood look offer handicrafts, jewelry, natural wood toys, Scandinavian wool, Finnish and Swedish specialties. Family program: historic children's carousel, archery on a wooden horse, open fires in iron pans for warmth. Santa Claus visits daily from 5 PM to 6 PM, the "walking angels" stroll through the market daily from 8 PM to 9 PM. Free admission. Open Mon–Fri 3 PM–10 PM, Sat–Sun 1 PM–10 PM.
The complete program for the Lucia Christmas Market 2026 will be published by the organizer on lucia-weihnachtsmarkt.de shortly before the market begins. The framework for the Advent season, November 23rd to December 22nd, 2026, has been established over the years:
