SandSpirit is the European Sandboarding Championship at Monte Kaolino in Hirschau – Bavaria's unique sand dune made of kaolin sand. For four days, sandboarders and snowboarders compete in disciplines such as parallel slalom, boardercross, and water slide. This non-profit event, organized by sandboarders for sandboarders, combines action, sport, and party at one of the most unusual venues in the Oberpfalz region.

SandSpirit 2026 – European Sandboarding Championship – takes place from July 9 to 12 at Monte Kaolino in Hirschau. Sandboarders and snowboarders compete in parallel slalom, boardercross, and water slide. Registration has been open since April 30, 2026.

From July 9 to 12, 2026, Monte Kaolino in Hirschau will once again become the stage for the European Sandboarding Championship. Participants from all over Europe will compete in disciplines such as parallel slalom, boardercross, and water slide – all sandboarders and snowboarders are invited, without the need for club affiliation. Registration via sandspirit.de has been open since April 30, 2026. Lift operation and infrastructure are provided by Skiclub Monte Kaolino e.V. In addition to the competition, SandSpirit ensures a lively party atmosphere on the unique sand dune.

Getting There

Hirschau is located in the Amberg-Sulzbach district, easily accessible via the A6 (exit Amberg-Ost) and the B14. Monte Kaolino is situated on the outskirts of Hirschau.

Boarding on the Sand Dune

Monte Kaolino near Hirschau is a globally unique attraction: an approximately 120-meter-high dune of kaolin sand, created as a byproduct of kaolin mining. This is where SandSpirit takes place annually, held as the European Sandboarding Championship since 2024. All sandboarders and snowboarders are invited – no club or association membership is required, and snowboarders quickly find their way on the sand.

Competition and Disciplines

Races are held in disciplines such as parallel slalom, boardercross, and water slide. The lift operation and infrastructure are provided by the Skiclub Monte Kaolino e.V. SandSpirit is a purely non-profit event by sandboarders for sandboarders – entry fees and sponsorship contributions go exclusively towards the execution, organization, and necessary equipment.

Action and Party

Besides the sporting competition, SandSpirit is known for its exuberant atmosphere: sandboarding by day, party by night. Supported by regional sponsors, the event attracts participants and spectators from all over Europe.
