Lucke-Hof — a Farm as a Museum, Since 1722
The Lucke-Hof at Alte Hauptstraße 35 in Premnitz is a four-sided farmstead built in 1722 — one of the best-preserved historical farmhouses in the western Havelland. Today, it is maintained by the Lucke-Hof e.V. association on a voluntary basis and operated as a farm museum: the black kitchen, smokehouse, living room, stables, and barns are preserved in their original state or have been carefully restored. The farm is one of the stops on the Brandenburger Landpartie — the major open farm day in Brandenburg, which opens hundreds of farms to visitors every June.
Backofenfest 2026 — Bread Like 200 Years Ago
On Saturday, June 13, 2026, it's Backofenfest at the Lucke-Hof — as part of the Brandenburger Landpartie. From 1 PM to 6 PM, the centuries-old clay oven will be fired up: freshly baked farmhouse bread, yeast cake, and sweet specialties will come out of the oven all afternoon and be sold on-site. The bread is baked according to historical recipes, and the flour partly comes from regional mills in the Havelland.
Program Around the Clay Oven
The festival is more than just selling bread — it's a small journey back in time:
- Demonstrations at the Clay Oven — How is the fire started? When is the oven at the right temperature? Association members explain the old baking technique.
- Guided Tours through the black kitchen (where people cooked and smoked for centuries without a chimney) and the smokehouse.
- Two Permanent Exhibitions on the farm: on the history of agriculture in the Havelland and on the history of the property and its families.
- Farm Café with coffee and freshly baked cake.
- Children's Program with farm animals and simple historical games.
The Lucke-Hof Throughout the Year
The farm is accessible not only during the Backofenfest. The association invites visitors to the "Offener Hof" (Open Farm, 10 AM–4 PM) on the first Saturday of each month. Other dates in 2026:
- July 11, 2026 (6 PM): Summer Night Concert with the Kammerorchester Nord from Berlin under Thomas Posselt.
- September 13, 2026 (1 PM–6 PM): Day of the Open Monument with bread from the clay oven.
- December 5, 2026 (1 PM–6 PM): "Stallweihnacht im Lichterglanz" (Stable Christmas in the Glow of Lights) — Christmas festival at the farm.
Premnitz and the Havelland
Premnitz is located on the west bank of the Havel River in the Havelland district, south of Rathenow and north of Brandenburg an der Havel. The town is primarily known for its industrial history (synthetic fibers, Reich research), but the rural surroundings of the Lucke-Hof showcase the original Havelland with meadows, canals, and farmsteads. The Westhavelland Nature Park begins right at its doorstep.
