Local Soulfood Festival in front of the Porta Nigra with regional restaurateurs and tasting portions
Porta Locals is the second or third edition (exact count varies) of a festival format developed by the Trierer City Initiative together with ttm GmbH and the Trier gastronomic scene. The aim is to make local gastronomy visible, to make new restaurants and food trucks better known, and at the same time to position the city center as an attractive place to be. The concept of tasting portions — small portions at fixed, low prices — addresses the desire of many visitors to be able to try several places in one day.
The festival uses two venues: the Porta Nigra square in front of the Roman city gate (World Heritage backdrop) and the neighboring Brunnenhof, where the live stage is also set up. Over the three festival days, regional bands, solo artists, and DJs play sets in various styles.
The Sunday with open shops adds an extra dimension: Trier's city center shops are open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., allowing festival and shopping visits to be combined — an important impulse for Trier's retail sector.
The 2026 edition falls within the World Heritage anniversary year and thus benefits from increased attention. The lineup of participating restaurateurs will be published by the City Initiative in the summer. Between 15 and 25 stands from Trier's restaurant, bistro, and food truck scene are expected.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
