Third Art and Culture Weekend at Historic Haus Hohenbusch
Haus Hohenbusch — a historic estate on the outskirts of Erkelenz — has been the backdrop for the Hohenbusch Art and Culture Festival since 2024. With its manor house, coach house, courtyard, and park, the ensemble offers spaces for vernissages, concerts, readings, and workshops alike. The stage program takes place outdoors in front of the manor house — in case of rain, performances move under the coach house.
The exhibition focuses on painting, sculpture, installation, and photography. Regional artists from the Aachen region, Rhineland, and Lower Rhine meet guests from the international art scene. The vernissage on Saturday at 3 PM opens the exhibition — the show will be open continuously until 6 PM on Sunday.
The musical program is diverse. Saturday (May 30, 2026, 10 AM to 7 PM) features a Veeh harp concert, folk, blues, and acoustic rock. Sunday (May 31, 11 AM to 6 PM) offers jazz and Taiko drumming — an unusual combination that the Erkelenz cultural audience enthusiastically received in 2025. Additionally, there will be readings in the piano room, performances with Veeh harp, and on Sunday, an award ceremony for the creative competition marking the 700th anniversary of the city's founding.
Designed to be family-friendly, the festival offers free children's workshops in acrylic painting, stone decoration, and canvas pouring. Encaustic art workshops with Sandra Klein run on both days, along with a play area and a mobile activity station for children. This makes the festival a classic family weekend, not just a connoisseur event.
The organizers are Kultur GmbH Erkelenz and the Förderverein Haus Hohenbusch e.V. — two entities that culturally utilize the estate and ensure continuous support for the festival. Admission is free on both days.
