Munich's traditional spring market on Mariahilfplatz
The Auer Dult is one of the oldest market events in Bavaria. The first Jakobidult took place on Sankt-Jakobs-Platz as early as 1310. In 1796, the then-independent village of Au officially received the right to hold a market – and thus the now world-famous three Dulten were established on Mariahilfplatz: Maidult, Jakobidult, and Kirchweihdult.
Around 250 stalls showcase a range of goods that is unique in its diversity in Southern Germany:
Families get their money's worth at the rides: the historic Ferris wheel from 1925, a carousel, bumper cars, and a Punch and Judy show are part of the permanent inventory. Reduced prices apply to the rides on Family Tuesday. For culinary delights, enjoy "Steckerlfisch" (grilled fish on a stick), roast chicken, cheese specialties, fresh "Schupfnudeln" (potato noodles), and sweet "Krapfen" (doughnuts).
The Maidult is more relaxed and family-friendly than Oktoberfest. Here you'll meet Munich locals who have known their regular vendors for decades, older ladies looking for the perfect crockery, and children marveling at the Ferris wheel. During the Dult, concerts are regularly held in the nearby Mariahilfkirche.
The 230th edition of the Maidult opens on Saturday, April 25, 2026, and ends on Sunday, May 3. The concept remains unchanged: traditional market goods, rides for families, and Bavarian gastronomy on Mariahilfplatz.
Throughout the Dult week, you'll find accompanying music events in the Mariahilfkirche. Families should mark Tuesday on their calendars — ride prices are traditionally reduced.
In the Mariahilfkirche, church music and small concerts take place during the Dult. Munich Tourism offers guided themed tours about the Auer Dult.
Note: A detailed stall overview and the locations of the individual rides will be published shortly before the festival begins on auerdult.de.
Tram 18 stops directly at Mariahilfplatz. Alternatively, you can reach the location with bus lines 52 and 62 or with the subway (U1/U2 Kolumbusplatz, then approx. 10 minutes walk). Parking spaces are scarce in Au-Haidhausen — it's better to use public transport or a bike.
Daily 10:00 AM–8:00 PM (stalls), rides from 10:30 AM.
Free admission. Ride and stall prices are separate.
There are two free drinking water fountains on the premises.
