Run for Cystic Fibrosis in the Middle of the North Sea

Amrum—the second-largest North Frisian island in the district of Nordfriesland (state of Schleswig-Holstein)—is the venue for an extraordinary charity run. The Amrumer Mukolauf combines athletic challenge with a strong social cause: it collects donations for the German Cystic Fibrosis Association e.V. (Cystic Fibrosis) and is the only charity event of its kind on a German North Sea island.

What awaits you

Start and finish is the Fachklinik Satteldüne in Nebel-Süddorf—a well-known rehabilitation clinic for children and adolescents with cystic fibrosis, asthma, and other respiratory diseases. Three distances are available:

• 26.5 km "Around the Island"—the grand island circuit through dunes, heathland, mudflat landscape
• 13.5 km "Around Half the Island"—the medium distance
• 4.5 km loop—family and beginner distance
• Walking options for the longer routes

There are refreshment stations along the route; changing rooms, luggage storage, showers, and massages for long-distance runners are available at the clinic.

Pentecost on Amrum

The run is embedded in the Amrumer Pentecost Event—in addition to the main sporting event, there is an accompanying program with performances by local and regional groups such as the popular Mädchen-Musikzug Neumünster, live music in the evening, children's award ceremonies, and a grand main award ceremony. The Pentecost festival on the weekend attracts numerous tourists to the island.

More than a Run

With every registration and every fundraising initiative, donations go directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Association e.V. The run has been held annually at Pentecost since the early 2000s and is a firm fixture in Amrum's event calendar—alongside Biikebrennen, harbour festivals, and open-air cultural evenings.
