Blues on an Island

Amrum is one of the North Frisian Islands in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, district of Nordfriesland, and is home to around 2,300 inhabitants. The fact that a Blues Open Air takes place on this island — known for Europe's widest sandy beach, its lighthouse, and its mudflat landscape — is an expression of a vibrant cultural life, consistently nurtured by the AmrumTouristik tourism center.

A Stage by the Mudflats

The venue is the Gewerbegebiet Uasterstigh in Nebel-Süddorf, near the lighthouse curve. A rather unconventional, but weather-protected location that creates a special atmosphere every year. While the North Sea roars outside, one of Europe's leading blues bands plays inside — or semi-open-air in good weather. The admission fee of €10 is symbolic, and the festival atmosphere is family-friendly.

Kai Strauss — World-Class Blues Guitar

Kai Strauss is considered one of the best blues guitarists in Europe. A multiple winner of the German Blues Award and a sought-after sideman for international stars, he presents groove-oriented electric blues with his Electric All-Stars, which has made him a benchmark in the German-speaking scene. The program 'Nightshift' combines original compositions with standards from American postwar blues.

Shuttle Included

A special feature of the festival: AmrumTouristik organizes a free island shuttle service after the concert, which takes guests back to their accommodations in Nebel, Norddorf, and Wittdün — important information for an island where public transport is scarce at night.
