Fairy Tales and Festive Cheer
The Rosenheim Christmas Market stands out from many other Advent markets in Upper Bavaria with a clear aesthetic concept: the stalls feature fairytale roof figures that stage a different fairytale motif each year. This gives the market a stage that appeals not only to children but also to adults.
Two Squares, One Market
The approximately 50 decorated stalls are spread across two central squares: Max-Josefs-Platz with a stage and a large fir tree, and Ludwigsplatz. Both squares are located in the historic pedestrian zone and are only a few metres apart. This creates a continuous circuit without having to leave the city.
Programme for Families
The daily stage programme is decidedly family-friendly: regular storytelling sessions, performances by choirs and school classes, a puppet theatre, and the traditional visit of St. Nicholas on December 6th at 4:00 PM. Horse-drawn carriage rides through the city centre are a classic, and on Wednesdays, there are discounted carousel rides on Family Day.
Culinary Delights and Crafts
At the stalls, you'll find steak rolls, tarte flambée, raclette, gingerbread, roasted almonds, mulled wine in many variations, and seasonal specialities. An annual Christmas decoration raffle supports local social institutions.
Rosenheim as a Bavarian District Capital
Rosenheim is the largest city in the Inn-Salzach region and the economic centre of the Rosenheim district in Upper Bavaria. With its listed old town and typical Inn-Salzach architecture, the city provides a particularly photogenic setting for the Christmas market.
