Two days of live music and family festival in the historic Roman city on the Main
Obernburg am Main in the Miltenberg district is one of the oldest towns in Lower Franconia — founded as the Roman fort Nemaninga along the Limes Germanicus. With its town walls, towers, and medieval alleys, the city today boasts one of the best-preserved historic old towns on the Bavarian Lower Main. The Altstadtfest plays to this strength: the stages are set up in the narrow, half-timbered streets.
The festival weekend begins on Saturday at 5 PM and runs until midnight. Live bands play simultaneously on several stages along Römerstraße — from the Oberes Tor to the Unteres Tor. Sunday starts at 11 AM with the traditional Frühschoppen, followed by a family program from local clubs and more concerts into the evening.
Sunday morning is dedicated to the classic Frühschoppen with brass music — a format deeply rooted in Lower Franconia. Afterwards, the Obernburg clubs take over the program, organizing the family afternoon with hands-on activities, games, and catering. The Altstadtfest is thus equally a party, a family event, and a platform for Obernburg's club life.
Located directly on the Main river, the festival benefits from its waterside location. On warm summer evenings, visitors meet between the town walls and the Main promenade; many guests arrive by train — Obernburg/Elsenfeld station is just a short walk across the bridge. The Altstadtfest is considered one of the liveliest Stadtfeste in the Bavarian Lower Main region.
Anyone visiting Obernburg in 2026 will immerse themselves in a dual history: Roman antiquity and medieval city. During the day, a visit to the City Museum (Roman finds, Limes history) and a walk along the town walls are worthwhile before the bands start playing in the evening.
The 2026 Altstadtfest is spread across several stages between the Oberes Tor and Unteres Tor. Live bands, club catering, Frühschoppen, and family offerings form the backbone of the program. The detailed band lineup will be published by the City of Obernburg in due course.
The detailed band program will be published at obernburg.de.
