Four-day Kirchweih (church consecration festival) with a festival tent and autumn market on the Bavarian Lower Main
The Obernburger Kerb is one of the traditional Kirchweih (church consecration festivals) in the state of Bavaria, specifically in the town of Obernburg am Main in the Miltenberg district on the Bavarian Lower Main. The town, with its Roman history – the Obergermanisch-Raetische Limes (Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Frontier) ran through here – provides the historic backdrop for a four-day Volksfest (public festival), known locally as “Omborscher Kerb”.
From Friday to Monday, the town centre transforms into a festival mile. In the festival tent, live music and parties create a lively atmosphere, while stalls offering Franconian specialities, wine, and beer cater to culinary delights. The Kerb is a social highlight for Obernburg and the surrounding communities.
A special feature is the HerbstMarkt (Autumn Market) “Genuss – Natur – Tiere” (Enjoyment – Nature – Animals) on Kerbsonntag (Kirchweih Sunday). Organised by StadtMarketing (town marketing), it combines a Sunday opening for shopping with stalls focused on regional enjoyment, nature, and animals, attracting numerous visitors to the town centre.
The Kerb is supported by Kultur Kollektiv Obernburg e.V., and the HerbstMarkt by StadtMarketing. This voluntary commitment shapes the character of the festival: down-to-earth, convivial, and closely linked to local club life. Admission is free on all days.
The Obernburger Kerb embodies the vibrant festival culture of the Bavarian Lower Main. The combination of Kirchweih tradition, festival tent atmosphere, and autumn market makes it one of the most popular October events in the Miltenberg district.
