Lohr am Main in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart bears the epithet "Snow White town" — local historians connect the Brothers Grimm fairy tale with historical events in the town on the Main. The Lohrer Zwergenaufstand picks up precisely on this identity: the first district-wide children's and family festival that draws families from the entire Main-Spessart district and beyond into the Lohr city center year after year.
Snow White distributes apples
The highlight of the festival is the appearance of the Lohrer Schneewittchen (Lohr's Snow White), who distributes apples to guests in the pedestrian zone around midday — a charming nod to the town's most famous fairy tale. Young visitors can meet Snow White, take photos, and take home their red apple.
Dwarf scavenger hunt and mega clown show
A diverse family program spans two to three festival days. A Zwerge-Schnitzeljagd (dwarf scavenger hunt) leads children through the historic old town — collect stamps in participating shops, with rewards waiting at the end. A Mega-Clown-Show, a Zumba party, a free children's city tour, and play activities in front of the shops ensure a lively city center atmosphere.
Schmecktakel meets Zwergenaufstand
The gastronomic festival Schmecktakel takes place parallel to the Zwergenaufstand — a combination that elevates the entire family festival to a new level. Food trucks with specialties from all over the world open from Ascension Day/Corpus Christi at 10:30 AM, accompanied by brass music starting at 11 AM in the city center. Parents can make culinary discoveries while the children are entertained by the dwarf program.
Lohr after the change in the business association
The Lohr business association announced in 2026 that it would withdraw from organizing city festivals — news that caused discussion in Lohr. However, the town of Lohr and the Tourist Information have continued the Zwergenaufstand because the festival is firmly anchored in the family-friendly profile of the Snow White town. It shows how municipal tourism management can combine tradition and change.
City center and Spessart Museum
Visitors to the festival can combine their day with a visit to the Spessartmuseum in Lohr Castle — where the Snow White connection of Lohr is historically presented. The Main Cycle Path also leads directly through Lohr — a perfect day for cycling families from the Main Valley.
Zwergenaufstand Lohr — edition 2026
The Lohrer Zwergenaufstand 2026 will take place on Friday, May 15 (Ascension Day), and Saturday, May 16, in the Lohr city center. Despite the business association's withdrawal from city festival organization, the town of Lohr is continuing the family festival — a clear commitment to the town's Snow White identity.
The highlight on Saturday at 12 PM: Lohr's Snow White will distribute apples for an hour in the pedestrian zone. In addition, the dwarf scavenger hunt through the old town, a mega clown show, a free children's city tour, Zumba, and a varied stage program ensure fun. In parallel, the Schmecktakel food trucks will be rolling through the city center — from 10:30 AM, with brass music from 11 AM.

Getting there
Lohr a.Main can be reached via the A3 (Marktheidenfeld exit) or the B26. By train: Lohr (Main) station, RB and RE lines Würzburg–Aschaffenburg. Parking in the city center parking garages or on the banks of the Main.
Admission
Admission to the Zwergenaufstand is free. The apple distribution by Snow White, the scavenger hunt, the city tour, and the stage program are free. Food trucks and catering at usual festival prices.
Tips
For the scavenger hunt, pick up the stamp pass at participating shops. The apple distribution with Snow White takes place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 12 PM to 1 PM in the pedestrian zone — those who want to meet Snow White should come on time.
