Running in the Footsteps of the Romans
The Römerlauf Obernburg is a traditional Volkslauf (popular run) in the town of Obernburg am Main, Miltenberg district, in the state of Bavaria. Since its first staging in 2010, the running event has become a firm fixture in the spring sports calendar of the Churfranken region. It is named after Obernburg's Roman past: the fort Nemaninga once stood here on the Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes.
Route through the Old Town and Riverside Parks
The circular route leads through the beautiful Obernburger Altstadt (old town) with its historic alleys and along the magnificent Mainanlagen (riverside parks). The course combines athletic challenge with scenic beauty, making the run attractive for both participants and spectators. The following are offered:
- 10-kilometer main run
- 5-kilometer run
- 2.5-kilometer school run
- 700-meter mini run for the youngest participants
Limited Field of Participants
As the route through the narrow old town cannot accommodate an unlimited number of runners, the main runs are limited to 600 participants each. Early registration via the official website is therefore recommended. This limitation also ensures a familiar and manageable running experience.
Obernburg – Roman City on the Bavarian Lower Main
Obernburg am Main is located in the Miltenberg district on the Bavarian Lower Main, nestled in the Churfranken wine region. The well-preserved old town with its city walls and Roman Museum underscores the historic flair that makes the Römerlauf a very special running experience.
