Christmas market on the 1st Advent weekend in the city center of the Westerwald district town Altenkirchen
Aktionskreis Altenkirchen e.V. is the business association of Altenkirchen's retailers, restaurateurs, and service providers. With Heavenly Christmas, it organizes the city's annual Christmas market, thus ensuring an important date in the district town's event calendar. The proceeds from the market finance further activities to revitalize the city center.
Heavenly Christmas 2026 will take place on Saturday, November 28, and Sunday, November 29 — on the 1st Advent weekend. This early date makes the market the kick-off for the Christmas season in the region and attracts visitors who want to enjoy the pre-Christmas flair particularly early.
The market's wooden stalls are spread across the pedestrian zone, the market square, and possibly the castle square. Christmas lighting with fairy lights, fir trees, and atmospheric light installations transforms the city center into a magical backdrop. The shop windows are decorated for Christmas and complement the market scene.
The range of stalls is diverse, from arts and crafts, Advent decorations, and gift items to handmade toys, pottery, knitted and felt goods, and Christmas ornaments. Culinarily, mulled wine, children's punch, bratwurst, potato pancakes, crêpes, gingerbread hearts, roasted almonds, and cookie variations dominate.
The market opens at 4:00 PM each day — in the late afternoon, when dusk sets in and the lighting creates its full magic. The market remains open until 10:00 PM, allowing even working people to enjoy the atmosphere after work. The long evening hours with mulled wine in hand and Advent music from speakers or live musicians characterize the market experience.
The key dates of the program are confirmed:
