Seasonal wine terrace in the heart of Trier's old town - March 13 to November 1, 2026
The Weinstand on Trier's Hauptmarkt is an institution. For years, the seasonal wine terrace, set against the backdrop of the Steipe, Roter Haus, and Dreikönigenhaus, has brought the wine culture of the Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer to the center of Germany's oldest city. Anyone who has enjoyed a glass of Trierer Riesling on a mild summer evening amidst Roman, medieval, and baroque facades will not forget this place quickly.
The concept is wonderfully simple: Mosel wines directly from the vintner, served by the glass, in a relaxed atmosphere, without prior reservation. The participating wineries change throughout the season, ensuring the stand's constant freshness and showcasing regional diversity. Classic Rieslings dominate the selection, complemented by Elbling from the Obermosel, Burgundy varieties, sparkling wine, and occasional specialties.
It is open from March 13 to November 1, 2026, Mondays to Saturdays from 10 AM to 10 PM, and Sundays and public holidays from 11 AM to 10 PM. Last orders are taken at 9:30 PM. Its location directly on the Hauptmarkt makes the Weinstand the perfect meeting point for locals and guests – whether for a quick aperitif before dinner, a longer stay on the weekend, or as the start of a city tour through the UNESCO World Heritage sites.
During the summer months, the Weinstand is a firm part of daily life for many Trier residents: a meeting point for after-work drinks, reunions with old acquaintances, and encounters with tourists from neighboring Luxembourg, Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. It is thus far more than just a wine bar – it is a piece of lived Trier city culture.
The season is roughly divided into a spring phase (March to May), a high summer phase (June to August), and an autumn section (September to November). In each phase, different vintners present their current vintages. While sparkling wines and white wines tend to be more prominent in spring, open Riesling spritzers gain importance in high summer, and more robust wines like Spätlese or aged Burgundies become more significant in autumn.
The Weinstand is heavily frequented by day-trippers from Luxembourg, Belgium, and France, as well as by regular Trier customers – on warm summer evenings, dense crowds can be expected.
The exact program for 2026 (list of vintners per week, special events) will be continuously communicated on trier-info.de and via the Weinstand's Facebook page. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
