47th edition of the Engen Old Town Festival “Da wackelt die Gass” — Motto “Sternstunden der Unterhaltung”
The Engen Old Town Festival has been the most important summer event in the Hegau town for 47 years. This year's motto “Da wackelt die Gass” says it all: On a Saturday in July, the picturesque, medieval old town of Engen transforms into a continuously lively festival mile where the town society, local clubs, and sponsors come together. The 47th edition in 2026 takes place on Saturday, July 25, from 11 AM to 12 AM. The official opening is at 11 AM in the Market Square by Mayor Frank Harsch; the annual motto “Sternstunden der Unterhaltung” promises a varied program.
The festival grounds extend across the historic Engen city center: Market Square (main stage), Main Street, Vorstadt, Sternenplatz, Open-air stage behind the town hall, and the Heimatmarkt (local market). Various stages are set up across the squares — music clubs, bands, DJs, sports club performances. Club stands serve food and drinks all around. This distribution ensures that the festival is felt *everywhere* — not a single center, but a continuous festival atmosphere.
The program begins at 11 AM with the opening by Mayor Frank Harsch at the Market Square and ends at 12 AM with the end of the music; drinks and festival operations until 1 AM. Throughout the day, various music clubs, bands, and soloists will perform on the different stages. Sports clubs provide refreshments in tents, the Heimatmarkt showcases traditional Engen crafts and products, and Sternenplatz has its own program focus. Overall, a typical civic festival program: Swabian-Alemannic catering, club performances, family activities, lots of music in the alleys.
Engen (approx. 11,000 inhabitants, Konstanz district, AGS 08335) is located in the Hegau — the volcanic hill landscape between Lake Constance and the Swabian Jura. The town is known for its almost completely preserved medieval old town with city gates, half-timbered houses, and narrow alleys. In the background rise the Hegau volcanic cones — Hohentwiel, Hohenstoffeln, Mägdeberg. Engen is a tourist gem and uses the Old Town Festival to publicly showcase its historic substance.
This year's edition marks the 47th iteration of Engen's established summer festival. With the motto “Sternstunden der Unterhaltung” (Star moments of entertainment), the program committee promises a packed stage program; the proven slogan “Da wackelt die Gass” (The street is shaking) captures the exuberant atmosphere of the festival.
The City of Engen coordinates the program, working with local clubs and sponsors (Sparkasse, Volksbank, Stadtwerke). Catering is provided by club stands throughout the old town; a detailed program schedule will be published in summer 2026 on altstadtfest-engen.de.
