Open-air music festival at the start of summer in the palace city north of Berlin
Oranienburg is the district town of the Oberhavel district and is located about 35 km north of Berlin on the Oder-Havel Canal. With almost 47,000 inhabitants, it is one of the largest cities in Brandenburg north of the capital. The Oranienburg Palace — built from 1651 for Electorate Luise Henriette of Orange — is one of the oldest Baroque palaces in Brandenburg and gave the city its name. Today it houses the Palace Museum and is an external site of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Berlin-Brandenburg.
The Fête de la Musique was initiated in France in 1982 by then-Minister of Culture Jack Lang and takes place every year on June 21 — the astronomical start of summer and the longest day of the year. The concept: Musicians of all genres perform simultaneously in public spaces, accessible free of charge to everyone. Now over 700 cities worldwide celebrate with it, and in Germany, there are several dozen.
In Oranienburg, the Fête de la Musique takes place simultaneously with the Stadtfest. The main stage and performances are concentrated on the Schlossplatz directly in front of the Baroque facade. Local bands, solo musicians, choirs, and ensembles from Oranienburg and the Oberhavel district shape the program. The spectrum ranges from classical to folk, jazz, indie, and pop — typical of the Fête concept, which deliberately mixes all genres.
Anyone who wants to spend a summer evening north of Berlin in a relaxed festival atmosphere will be right at home here. The combination of palace, park, city festival, and live music makes the Schlossplatz one of the most beautiful open-air venues in Brandenburg on this day. Admission is free, the format is family-friendly, and the S-Bahn connection (S1 from Berlin) makes Oranienburg a spontaneous day trip destination even for Berliners.
On Sunday, June 21, 2026 — the astronomical start of summer — Oranienburg celebrates the annual Fête de la Musique. The main venue is the Schlossplatz in front of the Oranienburg Baroque Palace, the oldest Baroque palace in Brandenburg.
The Fête takes place simultaneously with the Oranienburg Stadtfest — both merge into a dense open-air weekend. Local bands, solo musicians, choirs, and ensembles from Oranienburg and the Oberhavel district perform for free. The format follows the international Fête principle: all genres, all generations, free admission.
