About Electric Residence

Electric Residence is the electronic open-air festival in the historic courtyard of Strünkede Castle in Herne. Twelve DJs on two stages – Mainstage and Eat & Dance – play House, Tech-House and Techno in the unique setting of a 16th-century moated castle. Organized by the Cultural Office of the City of Herne, the festival is part of the Strünkeder Sommer and stands for acceptance, community, and diversity through electronic music. The fourth edition will be celebrated in 2026.

The fourth edition of Electric Residence takes place on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 4 PM to 1:30 AM in the courtyard of Strünkede Castle in Herne. Twelve DJs on two stages (Mainstage, Eat & Dance) bring House, Tech-House, and Techno to the historic moated castle setting. Tickets from €14.40.

The 2026 festival celebrates its 4th edition and is once again part of the Strünkeder Sommer. The organizers have put together a packed lineup of national and international DJs. Several B2B sets are announced, including Locky B2B Johann Tang and Phil Fuldner B2B Ante Perry.

Minimum age: 18 years. Admission includes access to the Mainstage and the Eat & Dance stage. In case of large crowds, there may be waiting times at the entrance to the Mainstage.

Getting There

Take the U-Bahn line U35 from Bochum or Buer/Gelsenkirchen to the Archäologie-Museum stop, then walk for 10 minutes. Bus 312 stops directly at the castle. Limited parking around the castle park – public transport or bicycle recommended.

Electronic Music Between Electricity and Stone

When the courtyard of the moated castle Strünkede becomes a dance floor, an experience is created that is unique in Herne and far beyond. Electric Residence combines the historic castle atmosphere with contemporary House, Tech-House, and Techno sounds. The organizers themselves describe the festival as a "festival between electricity and stone" – a pun that aptly summarizes the entire concept.

Two Stages, Twelve DJs

The lineup is spread across two stages: The Mainstage in the castle courtyard hosts the biggest sets, while the Eat & Dance stage combines culinary delights with DJ sets in a more relaxed setting. A total of twelve national and international DJs ensure a packed lineup from 4 PM to 1:30 AM.

Schloss Strünkede as a Stage

Schloss Strünkede is a 16th-century Renaissance moated castle that today houses the Emschertal Museum and a modern art gallery. The castle courtyard offers a sheltered inner courtyard with a historic wall backdrop – a distinctive stage for electronic music.

Herne in the Northern Ruhr Area

Herne is located in the heart of the Ruhr area, between Bochum and Gelsenkirchen. With Cranger Kirmes (NRW's largest Volksfest), numerous industrial heritage sites, and Schloss Strünkede, the city offers a rich program of events. Electric Residence is part of the "Strünkeder Sommer" – an event series by the City of Herne that bundles concerts, theater, and summer culture in and around the castle.
