One of Germany's largest fantasy festivals — Medieval, Gothic, Steampunk, Post-Apocalypse, LARP
"Das Grosse Treffen" — DGT for short — is one of Germany's largest fantasy festivals and a key date for the German fantasy community. From August 7th to 9th, 2026 (exhibitor arrival from August 4th), the Mega Eventpark Aach in southern Baden-Württemberg, approx. 10 km north of Lake Constance, will become the stage for a multi-day fantasy world. Several thousand visitors in costumes from all genres of fantasy culture are expected.
DGT combines five subcultures that are rarely celebrated together elsewhere: Medieval with camp life, shows of combat, and market; Gothic with dark fashion and somber music; Steampunk with Victorian costumes and mechanical contraptions; Post-Apocalypse à la Mad Max; and LARP (Live Action Role Play) with its own game worlds and characters.
DGT tells the story of a fictional world called "Whenuatonga". A narrative framework develops over all three festival days — conflicts between factions, alliances, twists of fate. Visitors can register, choose a faction, and participate in the game or follow the events as "spectators".
The musical program covers the central genres of the festival's subculture: Subway To Sally (Medieval Rock from Potsdam, one of the best-known bands in the scene), Stahlmann (Neue Deutsche Härte with industrial influences), CNVX, Deus Vult, and other acts on two stages. Concerts take place over all three festival days — the main evening is traditionally Saturday.
Beyond the musical performances, competitions and show formats shape the days: lightsaber tournaments (with their own rules and referees), sword fighting demonstrations with steel weapons, the famous "Teapot Race" (a humorous tea racing spectacle of the Steampunk scene), walking acts (post-apocalypse groups, Steampunk performers, dragon characters, pirate village), and workshops.
The medieval market brings together traders of leather goods, wood and metal crafts, jewelry, costumes, weapon replicas, drinking horns, and spices. Several camp life areas (Viking, Medieval, Post-Apocalypse, Steampunk) showcase authentic tents, campfires, blacksmiths, and cooking stations with food in historical style.
The 2026 festival officially runs from Friday, August 7th, to Sunday, August 9th. Exhibitors can arrive as early as Tuesday, August 4th, to set up camps and stalls. Several thousand visitors in costumes are expected.
The festival grounds at Mega Eventpark Aach include main stages, several camp areas (Viking, Medieval, Post-Apocalypse, Steampunk), the medieval market, and LARP areas.
