Bürgerfest Steinhöring

A Village Square Becomes a Festival Ground

Since the redesign of the village square in 2018, the Bürgerfest Steinhöring has been the most important summery village festival in the municipality. The new square between the school and parish church has since connected the historic town center with modern infrastructure and serves as the stage for the annual civic festival. The organizers are the Steinhöring Village Community with the TSV Steinhöring and other local clubs — a collaborative format without a commercial organizer.

Program and Schedule

The Bürgerfest begins in the afternoon from 5 p.m. and runs until the late evening hours. The typical program structure includes: a cozy festival opening with food and drinks, a live concert starting at 7 p.m. (in recent years often with the group »Saitenweis« — folk music meets modern tradition), and a DJ bar from 10 p.m. for the festival's conclusion. Food is prepared by the participating clubs, drinks are supplied by a local brewery (often Hofbräu Traunstein), and the Steinhöring Youth Center is represented with an ice cream stand.

»Moi Zünftig, moi Modern« — The Festival Motto

For years, the Bürgerfest has followed the motto »Moi Zünftig, moi Modern« (»A bit traditional, a bit modern«). This means that the event bridges the gap between Upper Bavarian tradition and contemporary festival culture: traditional costumes alongside T-shirts, folk music alongside pop and Schlager, roast pork alongside burgers.

Steinhöring and the Ebersberg District

The municipality of Steinhöring is located in the Ebersberg district, east of Munich on the Munich–Wasserburg railway line. It is known regionally for the Einrichtungsverbund Steinhöring, a traditional social institution of KJF Munich, which offers people with disabilities living, working, and educational opportunities. The municipality celebrated its 1,200th anniversary in 2024/2025 with a grand festival week — a reminder of the town's medieval history.

A Festival Among Neighbors

The Bürgerfest deliberately remains manageable — a village festival among neighbors, not a large commercial event. Those who want to experience the charm of an Upper Bavarian community in the east of Munich will find a typical summer evening here between Lederhosen and summer dresses, folk music and sunshine. The following year, in June, the local shooting club traditionally invites guests to a Kesselfleischessen (a traditional pork dish) — another date in the Steinhöring festival calendar.
