About Christmas Market Ebersberg

The Ebersberg Christmas Market transforms Marienplatz in the heart of the town into a festively illuminated market on the first weekend of Advent: Over 400 lights on a giant Christmas tree, 80 additional decorated fir trees from the Ebersberg Forest, and around 50 stalls with handcrafted products. Families are attracted by a free outdoor ice rink and a colorful miniature train, "Josefine," operated by the local carnival club. Stalls offer bratwurst, Reiberdatschi, crêpes, mulled wine, and Fairtrade drinking chocolate. Free admission. St. Nicholas distributes Fairtrade chocolate Santas to the children.

Ebersberg Christmas Market — Advent romance against the backdrop of the town hall

Ebersberg is located about 35 km east of Munich, directly on the Ebersberger Forst, one of Germany's largest contiguous forest areas. The Christmas Market on Marienplatz uses this location as a programmatic element: The 80 decorated fir trees that frame the market each year come exclusively from the Ebersberg Forest. In addition, there is a massive Christmas tree with over 400 lights, marking the center of the square.

Marienplatz, Town Hall, and Ice Rink

The festival area extends across Marienplatz into the foyer of the Town Hall. In front of the Town Hall, there is a free outdoor ice rink — the highlight for families with children. The shops around Marienplatz, including bookstores, boutiques, and the nearby shopping center, open on Sunday of the market from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Around 50 Market Stalls Focusing on Crafts

The stalls primarily offer handmade gifts: ceramics, woodwork, felt, candles, jewelry, and Advent wreaths. Alongside culinary classics of the Bavarian Christmas market:

  • Bratwurst and Brotzeit from local butchers
  • Reiberdatschi (Bavarian potato pancakes)
  • Crêpes sweet and savory
  • Mulled wine and Fairtrade drinking chocolate
  • Lebkuchen, lard pastries, candied almonds

Program for Families

The miniature train "Josefine", operated by the Ebersberg Carnival Society, runs through the town center every day from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM — a popular attraction for the little ones. A woodworking workshop invites children to craft small gifts, and on Saturday afternoon, St. Nicholas visits the market square with a sack full of fair-trade chocolate Santas for the children. Live music, storytellers, and brass ensembles alternate on the main stage.

Fair Trade as a Focus

Ebersberg is officially a Fairtrade Town. The Christmas market actively implements this label: the drinking chocolate and the Santa gifts are exclusively made from certified Fairtrade cocoa. Several stalls also offer fair-trade gifts — from jewelry made from recycled materials to organic teas from small farmer cooperatives.

Christmas Market Ebersberg — edition 2026

The Ebersberg Christmas Market 2026 will be held on the first weekend of Advent, as every year — the exact dates will likely be announced by the City of Ebersberg at the end of September 2026. Expect ice skating at the Town Hall, around 50 market stalls, the "Josefine" miniature train, a visit from St. Nicholas, and live music on Marienplatz.

The 2026 edition of the Ebersberg Christmas Market is scheduled for the first weekend of Advent. The official daily schedule follows the proven structure: Saturday 2:00 PM–9:00 PM, Sunday 12:00 PM–7:00 PM.

The detailed program (concerts, brass ensembles, storytellers, St. Nicholas visit) will traditionally be published in the weeks before the market on christkindlmarkt-ebersberg.de. Those who want to ice skate can bring their own skates or rent them on-site — the rink at the Town Hall is accessible free of charge throughout the market period.
