Grand Winter Festival in Hahnenklee-Bockswiese from January 31st to February 3rd, 2026 — Winter Market, Skiing, Tobogganing, Setzbügeleisenschießen and Nature Hikes
Hahnenklee-Bockswiese is a state-recognized climatic health resort and mountain village belonging to the city of Goslar in the Westharz region. With its location on the Bocksberg at an altitude of around 600 meters, the village offers ideal conditions for winter sports — from downhill skiing on the Bocksberg slopes to cross-country ski trails, toboggan runs, and an ice skating area on the Kranicher Teich. The historic wooden church, a unique architectural landmark from 1908, characterizes the village's appearance and gives Hahnenklee a distinctive charm.
The 2026 Winter Festival spans four days and coincides with the Lower Saxony school holidays — a deliberately chosen timing that offers families optimal conditions for a winter vacation with a festival program. Over the four days, the program is spread across various locations: the winter market on Rathausstraße, sports facilities on the Bocksberg, Kranicher Teich, Kurpark, the wooden church, and several other spots in the mountain village.
The winter market is the gastronomic and atmospheric heart of the festival. It is open from Saturday to Monday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday until 4 p.m. Stalls offering mulled wine, eggnog, hot chocolate, bratwurst, crêpes, sweets, and winter specialties cater to guests, while Christmas or winter lighting shapes the atmosphere. Stalls selling winter sports equipment, handicrafts, and regional products complement the offerings.
In terms of winter sports, the festival offers a diverse program: downhill skiing and snowboarding on the Bocksberg slopes, tobogganing on the various slopes, ice skating on the frozen Kranicher Teich (weather permitting), and cross-country skiing on the trails around the Bocksberg. Lift connections and a ski school ensure that beginners can also gain their first experiences.
A special feature of the Hahnenklee Winter Festival is the Setzbügeleisenschießen — a game native to the Harz region, similar to curling or Eisstockschießen, played on frozen ponds. If the weather permits, the tournament takes place on the Kranicher Teich and is one of the most characteristic program points of the festival.
For families, puppet theater performances are offered, which bring joy especially to the youngest visitors. Guided nature hikes through the winter landscape of the Westharz allow visitors to discover the beauty of the snow-covered mountain forest with expert guidance.
The 2026 edition continues the proven format. With the combination of a winter market, sports, family activities, and nature offerings, the festival appeals to families, winter sports enthusiasts, and those seeking relaxation.
The Setzbügeleisenschießen and ice skating on the Kranicher Teich are weather-dependent — they can only take place if the pond is sufficiently frozen. Current information is available on-site and at hahnenklee.de.
