Three summer evenings of cinema under the open sky in the historic Schlosspark Schönau
The Kino Open Air im Schlosspark is one of the most beautiful summer cultural events in the Waldshut district. From August 6 to 8, 2026, the city of Bad Säckingen will screen current films outdoors for three consecutive evenings in the historic park surrounding Schloss Schönau. Screenings start at dusk around 9:30 PM; admission opens at 7 PM, giving you plenty of time for a cozy picnic with family or friends. There will be fresh popcorn, savory snacks, and cool drinks at the on-site stand — you are also welcome to bring your own food and blankets.
Schlosspark Schönau is the former garden of the baroque moated castle Schönau on the High Rhine. It belongs to the city of Bad Säckingen and is located in a historic avenue between the castle and the banks of the High Rhine. During the cinema open-air event, the screen will be set up among the old trees; the park's shady character and the nearby Rhine provide a pleasant coolness in the evenings — perfect for balmy August nights. Cushions must be brought by visitors or can be purchased on-site.
As in previous years, the cultural office will finalize the film list for 2026 in early summer and announce it on badsaeckingen.de. Based on past experience, the festival typically shows current comedies, family films, and audience hits from the past 12–18 months — in 2024/2025, films like Eine Million Minuten, The Fall Guy, and Inside Out 2 were screened. Tickets will be available from summer 2026 at the Bad Säckingen Tourist Information office.
Bad Säckingen (approx. 17,000 inhabitants, Waldshut district, postal code 08337) is located directly on the High Rhine on the border with Switzerland. Known as the "Trumpeter Town" due to Joseph Victor von Scheffel's epic poem Der Trompeter von Säkkingen, the city is now a spa town with thermal baths and a historic old town. Schönau Castle and the longest covered wooden bridge in Europe (Rhine Bridge) are its landmarks. The cinema open-air event is part of a vibrant summer cultural program that combines concerts, markets, and festivals between May and September.
The 2026 edition will take place over three evenings — Thursday, August 6, Friday, August 7, and Saturday, August 8, 2026 — in Schlosspark Schönau. The screen will be set up among the historic trees, with seating arranged in front of the stage; bringing your own cushions or blankets is recommended.
Three films will be programmed — one highlight per evening. The program will be announced in early summer 2026 on the city website. Tickets will then be available at the Tourist Information office.
Individual tickets per film evening; specific prices will be announced with the program in summer 2026. Based on past experience, admission prices range between €8 and €12 per evening. Advance sales at the Bad Säckingen Tourist Information office. Tickets are non-exchangeable.
