Baroque summer festival under the linden trees in the UNESCO World Heritage candidate site
The Franckesche Stiftungen zu Halle are one of the most extraordinary cultural complexes in Central Germany. Founded in 1698 by August Hermann Francke as a Pietist educational and social institution, they today house schools, research institutes, a famous cabinet of curiosities (Wunderkammer), and one of Germany's most important historical library buildings. The complex is a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status — and twice a year it transforms into a festival world: for the Lindenblossom Festival in June and for the Advent Festival in December.
On June 20 and 21, 2026, the Lindenblossom Festival will take place — biennially, meaning every two years. The venue is the Historic Linden Courtyard, the characteristic long inner courtyard of the Foundations with its mighty linden trees. The festival follows an annual theme; in 2026, the motto is, in essence, “Getting Lost — Finding Yourself: Orientation and Navigation”. Up to 80 themed stalls will fill the courtyard — maps, compasses, labyrinths, lighthouses, celestial models. “Getting lost is explicitly encouraged,” invites the program.
On Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., market activities with baroque music, hands-on stalls, and culinary offerings will take place. From 7 p.m., the evening program begins with music, acrobatics, and a light show in the Linden Courtyard — the courtyard is transformed into a fantastic nocturnal scene. Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. follows as a more relaxed family day. All exhibitions of the Foundations (Cabinet of Curiosities, Library) are accessible free of charge during the festival weekend — a special gift to the people of Halle and its guests.
In the state of Saxony-Anhalt, in the independent city of Halle (Saale), the Lindenblossom Festival is one of the curated summer events of the highest caliber. The mix of baroque setting and thematic depth attracts an intellectually curious audience from all over Central Germany. Free admission — a rare combination of high program quality and accessible entry.
The Lindenblossom Festival 2026 takes place biennially — two years after the last edition. The annual theme focuses on getting lost: maps, compasses, labyrinths, lighthouses, and celestial models shape the program.
