About Linden Blossom Festival Halle

A City Festival with History and a Hands-On Spirit

The Historical Linden Blossom Festival is one of the most unusual summer festivals in Saxony-Anhalt: a two-day family event that transforms the Franckesche Stiftungen — a school and social welfare complex existing since 1698 on the southeastern edge of Halle's old town — into a large baroque playground. The festival takes place every two years and is organized by the foundations' event team, the board of trustees, and numerous volunteers.

The concept: Instead of stage shows and fast food stalls, a participatory program with over 80 stations. Children and adults wander through a labyrinth of workshops, experiments, theater performances, concerts, short readings, and hands-on activities. Each time, the focus is on a theme that connects the institution's tradition — education, enlightenment, cosmopolitanism — with the present.

2026: "Aiming True, Missing the Mark – A Festival of Orientation”

The motto of the 2026 edition plays with the double meaning of orientation and getting lost: How do we navigate a world where maps, compasses, constellations, and algorithms compete? Where do we like to get lost? What does it even mean to orient oneself "correctly"? Walk-in labyrinths, giant maps, a celestial model with zodiac signs, compass workshops, and a whole series of other interactive stations will be set up on the Lindenhof.

The Franckesche Stiftungen — A UNESCO Candidate in Halle

The Franckesche Stiftungen are located in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, in the district of Halle (Saale), and are among the most impressive architectural ensembles of the Protestant Enlightenment in Central Europe. The Historical Orphanage, the Cabinet of Curiosities, the baroque Wandelgarten (walking garden), and the Kunst- und Naturalienkammer (art and natural history collection) make the foundations one of the most important cultural-historical sites in the region. During the Linden Blossom Festival, all exhibition buildings are accessible free of charge — a rare opportunity to explore a UNESCO candidate ensemble with free admission.

Program Over Two Days

On Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the main program runs with market stalls, concerts, theater, and hands-on activities. In the evening, the foundations present the popular acrobatics and light show, which dramatically illuminates the historic facade of the orphanage. Sunday opens the festival at 10 a.m. and ends around 6 p.m. — ideal for families with small children who want to arrive earlier and enjoy the atmosphere on the Lindenhof before the afternoon crowds.

Linden Blossom Festival Halle — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Linden Blossom Festival bears the motto “Aiming True, Missing the Mark – A Festival of Orientation”. On the historic Lindenhof, walk-in labyrinths, giant maps, a celestial model with constellations, and over 80 other hands-on stations will be created. Concerts, theater, and acrobatics accompany the festival, and admission is free.

Under the motto “Aiming True, Missing the Mark – A Festival of Orientation”, 2026 will focus on the fine line between finding and losing one's way. Visitors wandering through the festival grounds will encounter maps of all sizes, compass workshops, a walk-in star model, giant labyrinths where even adults can easily get lost, and a series of hands-on stations that playfully explore the theme.

Two stages will provide musical and theatrical entertainment throughout both days. On Saturday evening, starting at 7:00 PM, the popular evening program begins with music, acrobatics, and a light show — the baroque facade of the Historical Orphanage becomes the stage set. All exhibitions of the Franckesche Stiftungen are accessible free of charge during the festival.
