Four Days of Christmas Magic on the High Rhine
The "Magical Old Town Christmas Market" in Bad Säckingen is one of the most beautiful Christmas market destinations on the High Rhine. From December 3rd to 6th, 2026, the historic old town around Münsterplatz will transform into an Advent world of fairy lights, wooden stalls, and festive music. The baroque backdrop of the Fridolinsmünster, which makes Bad Säckingen the "Trumpeter Town", creates a unique atmosphere.
Opening on Thursday Afternoon
The official start will be given by Lord Mayor Alexander Guhl on Thursday, December 3rd, 2026, around late afternoon (5 PM) — a traditional ritual with speeches, musical accompaniment, and the first glass of mulled wine of the season. The stalls will open their doors to visitors from 5 PM onwards.
Arts and Crafts, Gift Ideas, and Stage Program
Over 40 stalls in decorated wooden huts will offer regional arts and crafts, individually made gifts, Christmas decorations, jewelry, and toys. In addition, numerous culinary stalls will offer mulled wine, Christmas cookies, chestnuts, candied almonds, and waffles. A varied stage program — choirs, music groups, soloists — complements the market experience. Walking acts on stilts and in Christmas costumes will roam the alleys, entertaining visitors.
Münsterplatz with Fridolinsmünster
The heart of the market is Münsterplatz with the Fridolinsmünster — the largest baroque church on the High Rhine. The church will remain open during the Christmas market, with Advent concerts and services complementing the program. The compact old town with its narrow alleys, the old town hall, and the world-famous wooden bridge over the Rhine form the picturesque backdrop.
Bad Säckingen — the "Trumpeter Town"
Bad Säckingen, with its approximately 18,000 inhabitants, is known as the "Trumpeter Town" — a literary creation by Victor von Scheffel. The town on the High Rhine between the Black Forest and Switzerland is home to Karl-Heinz-Klett and many mineral springs, which establish its status as a spa town. The wooden bridge over the Rhine to Switzerland, at 203 meters, is the longest covered wooden bridge in Europe — and one of the town's landmarks.
