Adventsmarkt Museumsdorf Volksdorf
Baked apples, straw, and a farmyard on the first weekend of Advent
2026
About Adventsmarkt Volksdorf
Adventsmarkt Volksdorf — edition 2026
As in previous years, the Advent Market will take place on the first Advent weekend. Likely on Saturday, December 5, and Sunday, December 6, 2026 — official confirmation will follow in late summer 2026 via the Museumsdorf website.
The program follows the proven line: regional artisans, historic bakehouse, Christmas tree sales, carousel, and readings for children. The atmosphere of Hamburg's only open-air museum makes the market one of the city's special Advent offerings.

Advent between thatched roofs and straw bales
The Museumsdorf Volksdorf is a small world of historic farmhouses that have been moved to the north of Hamburg over the years. Thatched roofs, barns, utility buildings, a smithy, a school, a water mill, fields, and animal enclosures form the city's only open-air museum on about ten hectares. On the first weekend of Advent, the village opens its market — the charm is immediately palpable: no aluminum stalls, but real farmyards.
Weekend Program
Artisans set up their stalls in the market square and utility buildings: candles, woodwork, textiles, small gifts. The bakehouse smells of fresh loaves, baked apples, and cinnamon pastries, accompanied by mulled wine and roasted almonds. For children, there's an old carousel, games in the barn, and storytelling sessions. Christmas trees can be purchased directly — and even delivered by horse-drawn carriage to Volksdorf if desired.
Animals and Stories
A special feature is the Christmas hour with animals: children can feed the farm animals and learn interesting facts about their history in the historic farmyard. This is how the Museumsdorf has found its very own Advent tone — quiet, slow, far from the mass Christmas markets of the city center.
Wandsbek District, Volksdorf Neighborhood
Volksdorf is located in the Wandsbek district, in the north of Hamburg, at the terminus of the U1 subway line. It is one of the so-called "Walddörfer" (Forest Villages) — a series of historically rural districts that were incorporated into the city of Hamburg in the 1930s. The Museumsdorf has been supported by the association "De Spieker" since 1965.
