The Horgau Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1876 — at a time when fires in wooden villages were existentially threatening and the Bavarian rural population organized themselves into volunteer brigades. 150 years later, the FF Horgau is a modern operational unit, firmly anchored in village life — and a central driving force of club life.

Horgau in the Augsburg District

With its approximately 2,500 inhabitants, Horgau belongs to the Augsburg district in the state of Bavaria and lies on the edge of the Western Forests between Augsburg and Zusmarshausen. The municipality is a typical Augsburg rural community: larger villages plus districts (including Horgauergreut with its own fire brigade), a strong club structure, and a developed sense of home that is particularly evident at anniversary celebrations.

Program Structure of a Fire Brigade Anniversary

As everywhere in Bavaria, the 150th founding festival follows a script that has evolved over decades:

• Friday — Festival opening with beer tapping, club evening, live music
• Saturday — Celebration evening with a big party band and dancing in the marquee
• Sunday — Celebration service, field service or devotion, followed by a grand procession with all neighboring brigades and clubs, lunch in the marquee, convivial end of the festival

The grand celebration evening on Saturday will be performed by the Allgäu party band Muckasäck — one of the most sought-after live acts at Bavarian club festivals, known for their energetic mix of party classics, folk music, and rock covers.
