Ten Years of Wormser MarktWinzer

What began in 2016 as an experimental format – weekly Saturday wine service by Worms' district vintners on the central market square – has developed over a decade into one of Rheinhessen's most distinctive wine institutions. The anniversary festival on May 23, 2026, honors this history and gives everyone involved the opportunity to celebrate together: the participating Worms vintners, the City Marketing department as the organizational driver, the city community as loyal regular patrons, and the numerous tourists who have discovered the format as a weekly magnet.

Weingut Müsel as Anniversary Winery

For the anniversary festival, Weingut Müsel from the Herrnsheim district takes on the role of the main exhibitor. Müsel & Schäfer has been one of the leading wineries in the Worms districts for generations, representing classic Rhenish-Hessian wine tradition with its Rieslings, Silvaners, and Burgundies. The winery has prepared a special assortment for the anniversary.

Festive Setting on the Market Square

The market square between the baroque Dreifaltigkeitskirche and the Romanesque St. Peter's Cathedral forms the backdrop for the anniversary festival. Festive tables will be set up, live music will accompany the day, and an official ceremony with the Lord Mayor and representatives of the City Marketing department will honor the format. An anniversary wine and a special commemorative tasting will likely also be presented.

A Format That Inspires Others

In ten years, the Wormser MarktWinzer format has proven that wine tradition and city life can be connected not only in the form of large wine festivals but also through regular, accessible encounters. Other Rhenish-Hessian cities have since adopted the Worms approach.

Kick-off for the High Festival Season

The anniversary festival on May 23 is strategically timed: it marks the transition from the early wine mile season to the summer festivals, which culminate with the Pfingstmarkt (May 23-31) and later the Backfischfest.
