100th Anniversary of the Traditional Winegrowers' Festival in the Rhine Gardens of Braubach with Wine Fountain and Torchlight Procession
Braubach, a small town with just under 2,800 inhabitants on the right bank of the Rhine, is primarily known for Marksburg Castle – one of Germany's most famous castles, the only hilltop castle on the Middle Rhine never to be destroyed, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and home to the German Castles Association. However, Braubach is also an important wine-growing town on the Middle Rhine: on the steep slopes around the town, Riesling and Pinot Noir are predominantly grown, often in meticulously maintained steep vineyards with characteristic mineral slate soils.
The Traditional Winegrowers' Festival is celebrating a historic anniversary in 2026: it is turning 100 years old. This makes it one of the oldest continuously held winegrowers' festivals on the Middle Rhine. The Rhine Gardens directly by the water offer an impressive backdrop – with views of the Rhine and, looking up, of the mighty Marksburg Castle towering over the town.
The 2026 program takes full advantage of the extended weekend around German Unity Day (October 3rd falls on a Saturday, giving many visitors a long day of celebration):
Food and drinks will be provided by regional wines from Braubach vintners and neighboring Middle Rhine wineries, complemented by specialties from the Hunsrück and Rhineland-Palatinate regions. Free admission.
The 2026 anniversary edition is the most significant in decades. With its 100th birthday, it celebrates both the tradition of Braubach's wine culture and the region's World Heritage identity. Additional ceremonial program points and special appearances are expected.
The detailed program for 2026 (further specific program items, special guests, daily schedule for Sunday and Monday) will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure will follow the proven key points of previous years.
Riesling and Pinot Noir from Braubach vintners and neighboring Middle Rhine wineries. Sparkling wine from the region. Federweißer (new wine) in season. Specialties from Hunsrück and Rhein-Lahn for catering.
