Pentecost Anniversary of the Volunteer Fire Brigade Beidl with Leonhardiritt
The Volunteer Fire Brigade Beidl – founded in 1901 – is celebrating its 125th anniversary over Pentecost 2026 with a grand anniversary festival on the festival grounds in the Beidl district of the market town of Plößberg. Four festival days around Pentecost combine a DJ night, a brass concert, a festive church service with vehicle consecration and a grand procession, as well as the traditional Leonhardiritt on Whit Monday – an anniversary festival with an Upper Palatinate character.
The festival program spans a wide range from young festival tent sound to religious customs. Friday, May 22: DJ night »ZELTBEBEN« from 8 PM (admission free until 9 PM, then €5). Saturday, May 23: »BEIDL MEETS BRASS« with HulzStoussBoum and Saustoimusi from 8 PM. Sunday, May 24: Festive church service, vehicle consecration, and grand procession from 2 PM, evening festival with Blech Buam Musi and i-Düpferl. Whit Monday, May 25: Field service with Bishop Dr. Josef Graf, Leonhardiritt, »Beidler Fünfkampf« (Beidl Pentathlon), and Bavarian Music Monday.
Beidl is a district of the market town of Plößberg in the Tirschenreuth district (Upper Palatinate), right by the Steinwald forest and close to the Czech border. The region is characterized by pilgrimage sites, an old glassworks tradition, and a particularly dense fire brigade and club culture. A fire brigade anniversary is not celebrated as a small club party in this area, but as a multi-day local event – with patron clubs, a procession, flag consecration, and a large festival tent.
The Leonhardiritt in Beidl is one of the festival's highlights. Saint Leonard is the patron saint of horses, cattle, and farmers, and Leonhardiritte have been customary in Old Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate for centuries. Decorated horses and carriages are blessed and led through the town in a solemn procession – an impressive, living piece of Upper Palatinate tradition.
The 125th anniversary celebration of the Volunteer Fire Brigade Beidl will take place from Friday, May 22, to Whit Monday, May 25, 2026, at the Beidl festival grounds. The anniversary festival is one of the largest club events in the Pentecost calendar of the northern Upper Palatinate and combines four very different festival days: a young DJ evening, a brass concert with guest bands from Upper and Lower Bavaria, a classic procession Sunday with vehicle consecration, and a Whit Monday dedicated to the Leonhardiritt.
The event is organized by the FFW Beidl together with friendly clubs from Plößberg and the surrounding area; catering with regional delicacies, beer, and drinks will be available throughout all four days.
