About Maifest FF Pettendorf
Maifest FF Pettendorf — edition 2026
In 2026, the FF Pettendorf once again invites you to its annual Maifest. The established date on the last weekend of April is classic — falling before May 1st, without scheduling conflicts with the May celebrations in the larger cities of the region.
The program follows the familiar structure: festival opening in the late morning or at noon with catering, Maypole raising in the afternoon, live music or DJ in the evening, and the festival winding down at night. As always, the firemen and supporters organize everything on a voluntary basis.

May Festival at the Fire Station
The Maifest of the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Pettendorf is one of the annual spring events of the Upper Palatinate municipality in the district of Regensburg. The FF Pettendorf organizes the festival as a non-profit association and uses it for club financing and for fostering community life in the village. The venue is the fire station at Florianigasse 1 — the street name "Florianigasse" honors Saint Florian, the patron saint of firefighters.
Raising the Maypole as a Central Tradition
As with many Bavarian Maifests, the raising of the Maypole is the central element. The firemen and their helpers erect the freshly decorated Maypole with long wooden poles and sheer strength — a physically demanding ritual that showcases strength and community spirit. The Maypole is decorated with traditional symbols: Upper Bavarian-Upper Palatinate coats of arms, symbols of local crafts and associations, sometimes traditional costume and club flags.
Festival Day in Spring
The date at the end of April / beginning of May (2026: April 25) is classic: before May 1st, so the brigade can celebrate its festival without scheduling conflicts. The weather is usually mild, the trees are freshly green — a beautiful backdrop for the festival with bratwurst, Steckerlfisch (fish grilled on a stick), fresh draft beer, and sweet Maibaum-Krapfen (Maypole doughnuts).
Pettendorf — on the Edge of the Upper Palatinate
Pettendorf is a small municipality in the district of Regensburg, located northwest of the cathedral city, at the transition between the Danube valley and the Upper Palatinate Jura. With just under 5,000 inhabitants, the municipality is manageable but structurally intact: fire brigade, marksmen, associations, and church shape village life. The Maifest is one of those events where the village community visibly comes together.
